Dear Colleagues,

As the 5th IPGC approaches, prepare to step beyond the lecture hall and into a dynamic, real-world geological cross-section.

Join us for the two-day field trip "The Pyrenees: A Geological Journey Through a Millennia-Old Landscape" on 8 and 9 November 2025. This intensive field trip will take you deep into the Aragonese Pyrenees, one of Europe’s most fascinating mountain ranges.

When: Saturday 8 – Sunday 9 November 2025

Where: Zaragoza → Pyrenees → Zaragoza

Fees: 240 €

Explore Earth’s History with Experts

This excursion is guided by experts from the University of Zaragoza who will lead you through the mountain range’s complete geological structure, from the valleys to the peaks rising over 3,000 meters.

You’ll gain hands-on experience and witness:

  • The Pyrenean structure at Monrepós Pass and the southern Pyrenean frontal thrust near Nueno.

  • Practical sessions including compass measurements and drone-based structural analysis at Yebra de Basa.

  • Permian volcanism, ancient mines and ore mineralizations in the Barrosa Valley, and remarkable glacial landforms in the Pineta Valley.

  • The overlapping Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic rock layers, tracing the story of tectonic collisions and past glaciations.

This experience fuses geology with nature in its purest form, bringing science to life as you connect with a landscape shaped over millions of years.
